Paradise was originally built in the late 1990s to serve the western Arizona regional market. After years of operations, the Tribe wanted to create a dramatic refresh to the property to better serve the regional market. The comprehensive, floor-to-ceiling upgrade was designed to transform the entire gaming floor into an "Underwater Paradise".
Location: Yuma, Arizona
Duration: 16 Weeks
Project Size: 32,000 sf
Services: Complete Design Build
The new design concept was based on the idea of a creating an underwater paradise, which would be very different from the surrounding Southwestern area and provide a memorable draw for the location. The design featured a curved ceiling structure with integrated radius beam sysem which was inspired by wave patterns in the ocean. programmable LED lighting was integrated into the radius beams which produced an ever changing light show for the casino ceiling.
Digital LED media screens were integrated into the upper portions of key walls to accentuate the visual theater of the gaming floor. A new “Reef Bar” featured an integrated curving LED screen that was designed to create a digital “Fish Tank” visual experience, offset by colorful coral bottle displays and integrated TV screens. The existing restaurant was re-branded into a comfortable oasis called ‘The Cove’. The “Islands” inspired theme integrated warm wood finishes, a soft color palette, and unique accent lighting to produce an inviting dining space with an easy-going, relaxed ambiance.
As part of this comprehensive project, the I-5 architectural team produced the construction documents which fully integrated the new strucures and features into the existing building envelope. This process ensured the new features not only created excellent visual impact when installed, but for the long term as well.
During the design-build project, weekly 3D scans were captured to document the construction progress and keep the management team and Tribe updated. This also provided highly detailed, visual documentation for the as-built package provided to the Tribe upon closeout of the project.

All of the specialty elements for the project were pre-constructed and installed in phases in order to maximize the number of games online throughout the renovation.
Even the largest of the design elements, a valance that extended over the gaming floor to the outerwalls, was pre-assembled off-site to ensure fit and finish prior to the onsite project implementation. Advanced color-changing LED lighting and finisehs were integrated into the elements as they were built, which saved weeks of onsite work. This method also allowed for a parallel offsite construction and onsite pre-construction and demo process which further minimized disruption for the casino's guests.
